Dip a cotton pad in this and wipe the orchid leaves. It will prolong the flowering of the plant
. They naturally come from Asia, where thousands of varieties of these flowers are cultivated. In Poland, the most popular species are cymbidium, dendrobium and phalaenopsis. The latter also blooms in autumn and winter. However, for this to happen, orchids require proper care. The basis, of course, is watering and a permeable substrate with a drainage layer. It is also a good idea to use natural conditioners. They will non-invasively provide plants with the necessary vitamins and minerals.
An effective method for quick growth is tea fertilizer. Importantly, do not water the substrate with it, but only rub it into the leaves. In just two weeks you will see the difference, and even a wasting orchid will be full of flowers. All you need to do is prepare an infusion of loose leaf tea. The mixture should be brewed for several hours to make the decoction intense. After this time, strain everything through a sieve and add 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Pour into a glass jar and put in the fridge. To nourish the orchid, simply soak cotton pads in the decoction and thoroughly (but also gently) wipe all the leaves with it. This unusual method will nourish the flower and make it bloom longer.
Why does rubbing orchid leaves with tea work?
Tea is a source of many valuable nutrients for plants. It contains, among others, magnesium, antioxidants and tannins. When used as a lotion, it strengthens the leaves, affects the number of bunches and stimulates flowering. Additionally, tea protects against attacks by pests and fungal diseases of plants. Physically wiping the leaves will not only provide them with vitamins and minerals, but will also remove any dust. Contrary to appearances, this is a very important activity in flower care. Dust can block photosynthesis and cause the plant to die.
How to care for orchids? Follow this simple rule and I will bloom like crazy
We have prepared a list of the simplest rules to follow when doing so. Take them into account and you will see that your orchids will surprise you with beautiful flowers.
Step 1 – suitable substrate for the orchid
Orchid care is not demanding, but you need to remember a few things. First of all, at the beginning it is worth taking care of the appropriate substrate – it must be extremely absorbent and at the same time allow air to pass through. Therefore, the easiest way is to choose a ready-made orchid mixture.
Step 2 – don’t forget to water the orchid
Watering your orchid is the most important step in its care. Watering them requires a special method because otherwise the orchid roots may start to rot. The orchid must be able to absorb water from the air. Place a vessel with water behind the pot – the plant itself will take as much water as it needs at a given moment. When watering directly, remember to avoid completely submerging the roots in water.
Step 3 – fertilizing the orchid
To make the flowers even more beautiful, it is worth choosing a proven plant food. It is best to fertilize orchids with specialized preparations that need to be diluted with water. It is important to apply the right amount of the preparation. If there is too little of it, the orchid will not bloom, too much will only cause the roots to grow. Orchids should be fertilized 2-3 times a week.
Why don’t orchids want to bloom?
One of the reasons why an orchid does not bloom may be the wrong way of pruning the plant or the lack of it. In general, faded inflorescences should be cut off above the third bud. Thanks to this, the orchids will bloom like crazy. But beware! Not all species of these flowers like this method of care. In the case of the Phalaenopsis orchid – the so-called Orchid, you need to wait until the shoots die completely and then safely remove them.
