PSG 1 (2) x (1) 1 Flamengo: melhores momentos e pênaltis

O Flemish fought, competed, managed a 1-1 draw in normal time after coming up behind on the scoreboard, but ended up defeated by Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 on penalties final of the Interconinental Cup. The French club had an inspired performance from Russian goalkeeper Matvei Safonov, who took four shots. With this, the current European champion takes the title of the ‘new’ annual FIFA World Cup.

Second half summary

If PSG had plenty of intensity in the first half, the second half was very different. With the substitutions, the French team dropped in level and Flamengo managed to escape more frequently. In one of these arrivals, at 58, Arrascaeta received the ball in the area and was brought down by Marquinhos. The play was called by VAR and the penalty was awarded.

After the goal, PSG started to scare frequently, populating Flamengo’s area, but the game became more open and Flamengo was dangerous on counterattacks. Pedro and Bruno Henrique had chances, but were unable to finish well. In the last play, however, Marquinhos had the winning ball. Dembelé cut the marking, shot across the field towards the area and the Brazilian defender, facing the goal, was unable to finish.

First half summary

The first stage can be explained by the physical difference between the teams. Flamengo was unable to escape the incessant pressure from PSG, which also recovered extremely quickly and nullified any counterattack from Rubro-Negro.

In defense, Flamengo made more mistakes than allowed for this level of play. After just eight minutes, after a mistaken retreat by Arrascaeta, Rossi tried to save a ball that would have gone over the baseline. The Argentine left the goal open and saw Fabián Ruiz score, but was saved by the VAR, who signaled the ball was out and a corner was awarded.

Goals: PSG 1 x 0 Flamengo – Kvaratskhelia

After that, the Brazilian team even scored well, until a low cross that came from the right, Rossi tried to cut, but deflected the ball to the feet of Kvaratskhelia, who only scored the goal.
