Genial/Quaest survey released this Wednesday (17) shows that 47% of Brazilians are against the (PL) and those arrested on January 8, while 43% are in favor — with 24% in favor of approving the Dosimetry PL and 19% in favor of even greater reductions.
The survey shows that, for 58% of the population, the PL currently being processed in the Senate and already approved in the Chamber was designed to reduce the former president’s sentences. For 30%, it was designed to reduce the sentences of everyone involved in the coup plot.
Quaest interviewed 2,004 people over the age of 16 between the 11th and 14th of this month. The estimated margin of error is two percentage points.
In total, 53% of those interviewed declared that they did not know that the Dosimetry PL had been approved in the Chamber, while 47% said that they knew.
The survey also addressed support for a full amnesty. Of the total, 44% declared themselves against, 36% said they were in favor of a proposal that includes everyone involved, and 10% said they supported a proposal that would only grant amnesty to protesters convicted of acts of vandalism and invasion of the headquarters of Power. Another 10% said they did not know or did not respond.
Among those interviewed who declared themselves Bolsonarists, 53% said they were in favor of even greater sentence reductions than those proposed in the project, while 10% were against the reduction. Among those who declared themselves Lulistas, 77% are against reducing sentences and 4% defend even greater reductions.
The Dosimetria PL rapporteur stated that the text would reduce Bolsonaro’s prison time in a closed regime from six years and ten months to something around two to three years. The estimate, Paulinho da Força (Solidarity), and would only be valid for those convicted of participating in the coup attempt.
In the Senate, however, the assessment is that the text is written in a way that also benefits those convicted of other crimes and . The House had scheduled the vote for this Wednesday.
