The former director of the tax office in Nitra confessed to bribery: He is still facing other charges

The former director of the Nitra tax office, Radoslav Uharka, confessed to bribery and entered into a plea agreement. The prosecutor of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Nitra has already submitted a proposal to the Specialized Criminal Court to approve the agreement he concluded with the accused ex-director. Jaroslav Maček, deputy regional prosecutor in Nitra, informed about it.

Radoslav Uharka was detained by the National Criminal Agency (NAKA) in June 2021 as part of a police operation aimed at large-scale tax fraud. The former director of the tax office was accused and later prosecuted in connection with millions of VAT frauds. According to the prosecutor’s office, he bribed his subordinates to ensure that excessive VAT deductions were paid without problems. In the case of Radoslav Uharka, this is already the second plea agreement.

The prosecutor’s office in Nitra also reported on another case of VAT fraud. As Maček stated, the prosecutor of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Nitra filed an indictment with the Specialized Criminal Court against the accused Gustáv Š. and accomplices for the continuing crime of tax fraud. “The indictment was filed against a total of five defendants, and there was an unauthorized deduction of VAT in the amount of more than seven million euros,” added Maček. According to him, the case concerns the import of meat from Brazil and the subsequent unauthorized deduction of VAT.
