The new head of British spies declares a shadow war against Russia: "We operate between peace and war"

British spies have a new boss: who has become the first woman to head the United Kingdom Secret Intelligence Service (better known as MI6).

Metreweli took office on October 1 of this year and in his first public appearance he made it clear that combating sabotage campaigns will be one of the main objectives of his mandate.

As reported by the British media the director of MI6 has declared a shadow war against Russia claiming that British spies will carry out covert actions to outdo Russia “in every way.”

In this sense, Blaise Metreweli has stressed, in reference to the actions of ‘hybrid war’ by Vladimir Putin, that “We are now operating in a space between peace and war.”

Regarding how to respond to Russia, the British spy chief stressed that “we will never lower ourselves to the tactics of our opponents.” Despite this, Metreweli has made it clear that “We must try to overcome them. In all areas. In every sense.”

Russia’s attacks on NATO ‘just below the threshold of war’

The director of the United Kingdom’s Secret Intelligence Service has accused Putin of both “dragging out negotiations” to end the war in Ukraine and of having launched a series of attacks against Britain and NATO allies “just below the threshold of war.”

Among those non-military attacks by Russia against NATO countries, the leader of MI6 has listed incursions into airspace flying over airports and military bases; sabotage and fires; cyber attacks against critical infrastructures; aggressive activities at sea (both on the surface and in the depths) and propaganda campaigns to try to “widen” the fractures in society.
