The Russian leader promised the military conquest of what he considered the “historical Russian territories” in Ukraine, in an allusion to the four Ukrainian regions annexed by Moscow, if diplomacy fails.
“If the adversary and its foreign sponsors refuse to talk about it, the Russia will achieve the liberation of its historical territories through military means”, he stated, quoted by the Spanish news agency EFE.

Putin stressed that he preferred to recover the territories “and eliminate the original causes of the conflict with the help of diplomacy”, when speaking before the defense summit in Moscow.
He also reaffirmed that the objectives of the “special military operation”, the official Russian designation for the conflict, remain in place, at a time when negotiations are taking place on a North American plan to try to end the war.

“Russia demonstrated its stability in the economyin finances, in the internal political situation of society… and in the field of defense capability”, said the Russian president.
Putin added that Russia is ready to talk to Europe, but that this will not be possible with the current set of European politiciansand praised its Armed Forces, saying that “no one in the world” has such a good army like that of Russia and that it is now “experienced in war”.
“The year that is now ending was an important stage in the fulfillment of the missions of the special military operation. The Russian army maintains the strategic initiative across the entire front line, despite Kiev counting on “the potential of member countries of the largest political-military bloc in the world, NATO”, he stated.
The Russian leader claimed that the Russian troops “are crushing” elite Ukrainian units “trained in Western instruction centers” and equipped with modern foreign weaponry.
One more year
After these statements, Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russia is preparing to wage another year of war: “Today, we heard another signal from Moscow saying that they are preparing to make next year another year of war.”
In his daily address to the nation, the president of Ukraine warned European allies that “it is important that they see this” and above all that they react, addressing in particular the United States, “which often says that Russia supposedly wants to end the war”.
Zelenskyy accused Moscow of using diplomacy to “cover up your desire to destroy Ukraine and the Ukrainians” and “for legitimize theft” of the territories of your country and beyond.
The Ukrainian President suggested that, based on the same argument as Putin, Moscow may attack the territories of other countries Europeans who “one day claim it as their so-called historic lands”.
A Russian invasion of Ukrainereleased on February 24, 2022, plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since World War II.

In that sense, all of Ukraine is ours“, he defended, citing “an old rule” to the debate moderator: “Where a Russian soldier’s boot steps is ours”.
