Globe Soccer Awards: how it works and what it is
In the outcome of the awards, the popular vote has a weight, as do the votes of a jury made up of football professionals, such as journalists, businesspeople, coaches and former players.
The event is organized by the Dubai Sports Council, Dubai’s sports council. The celebration has been taking place since 2009 and has the popular nickname Dubai d’Or, in reference to the Ballon d’Or (Golden Ball). The award for best club of the year in men’s football was created in 2011.
At the event, the Dubai Sports Council is partnering with the European Club Association (ECA) and the European Players’ Agents Association (EFAA). The festival brings together important figures from the football scene – such as representatives from FIFA, ECA and UEFA – as well as the UAE League, managers and major clubs. The meeting seeks to promote debates about the world of football, including topics such as the market, transfers and the exchange of experiences between those involved.
The first meeting took place in 2009, but the awards only began to be distributed in 2010, initially with three categories. In 2011, this number rose to six, and in 2012 the award expanded significantly, reaching 19 categories linked to sport.
This year’s event will be held at Atlantis The Royal, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
