If Germany coughs, Austria no longer necessarily has the flu

There is little sign of the hoped-for economic upswing in Germany shortly before the end of the year. The mood in the German economy has even worsened again, as some important data recently showed. The climate among companies deteriorated in December. The much-noticed Ifo business climate fell by 0.4 points to 87.6 points, as the Munich research institute announced recently. Economists had expected at least a slight increase. “Companies are more pessimistic about the first half of 2026,” commented Ifo President Clemens Fuest on the results of the survey. “The year ends without a sense of optimism.”
