India, a candidate to organize the 2036 Olympic Games, ranked first in the world for doping cases for the third consecutive year, according to a report published by Wada (World Anti-Doping Agency).
In 2024, 260 Indian athletes tested positive in 7,113 analyzed tests, according to the annual report published on Tuesday (16) by the global anti-doping watchdog.
This is a serious blow for the most populous country in the world, which is preparing to organize the 2030 Commonwealth Games and which wants to organize the 2036 Olympic Games.
The country, which is trying to regain credibility, has already recorded the highest number of doping-related infractions in the world in 2022 and 2023.
After the report was published, NADA (National Anti-Doping Agency of India) defended its management.
“In recent years, India has significantly strengthened its anti-doping device,” NADA assured in a statement on Wednesday (17).
The agency claims to have “increased testing” and “emphasized education and awareness.”
According to NADA, in the year, until December 16, 7,068 tests had been carried out, with 110 positive results.
