Lula signals veto to the Dosimetry PL after approval in the Senate, says website

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) warned assistants that he intends to veto the Dosimetry PL, approved on Wednesday night (17) by the Senate and which changes the calculation of the penalties applied to those convicted of the coup acts of January 8, including former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The information was released by G1.

The t, 25 opposed and one abstention, after being approved by the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) hours before. With the conclusion of voting in Congress, the proposal went to the president’s desk, who will now have to decide on sanction or veto.

According to interlocutors at Palácio do Planalto interviewed by the website, Lula would be upset with the handling of the issue in Congress, especially with the performance of the government leader in the Senate, Jaques Wagner (PT-BA).

Wagner articulated a procedural agreement at the CCJ to make it possible to vote on the Dosimetry PL, a movement that aimed to unlock the Senate’s agenda. The release allowed the plenary to move forward, subsequently, on projects of interest to the economic team, especially fundraising measures already approved by the Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday (16).

If the veto is confirmed, Congress will still be able to analyze it in a joint session of deputies and senators, where an absolute majority will be needed to overturn it. Until then, the issue should remain at the center of the political dispute between the government, opposition and part of the center.
