Lula’s former minister, Celso Sabino announces that he will run for a seat in the Senate in 2026

Through a publication on his profile on X, the politician declared that he will run for a seat in the Upper House of Congress ‘alongside’ the head of the Executive

Celso Sabino said he received a “call” for a “new mission” to run for the Senate

Celso Sabino announced this Wednesday (17) that he will run for a seat in the Senate in the state of Pará in 2026. Earlier, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) after União Brasil claimed the portfolio. Sabino was expelled from the party in early December.

“Just as I received a call from President Lula, now I receive and accept the call for a new mission: to contest the elections for the Federal Senate, for my state of Pará, alongside President Lula. And, with the certainty that we have the best project for the country and my beloved state of Pará”, wrote Sabino in a post on his profile on X (formerly Twitter).

Also in the publication, the former minister highlighted the results of his management in the tourism department. He said that, on Friday (19), Brazil will register the milestone of 9 million foreign tourists visiting the country.

“The result of intense work to reinforce international promotion, expand the airline network, improve tourist infrastructure and professional qualification of those on the front line of tourist services”, he said.

The former minister also stated that “it was worth staying at the Ministry of Tourism so that COP30 could be a complete success”. The United Nations Climate Change Conference was held in November, in Belém, Pará. In September, União Brasil, Sabino’s former party, and ordered its members in Executive positions to leave their posts.
