Our territory is shrouded in cold and foggy weather. According to meteorologists from the portal, the desired change is looming in a large part of Europe, but in Slovakia we will have to wait for it until the Christmas holidays. Until then, the country will remain part of the so-called “European precipitation hole”, where precipitation is the exception rather than the rule.
The extensive high pressure affecting our territory brings stable, but distinctly inverse weather. The warm air flowing from the south shows up only in the higher elevations where the weather is sunny, while the valleys remain shrouded in fog and cold. Low clouds are maintained in the lowlands and temperatures are only slightly above freezing.
In the coming days, the weather in Europe will start to change. Frontal waves will arrive from the Atlantic to the western part of the continent, which will bring significant precipitation, but Slovakia will remain out of their reach. A depression will deepen over the Mediterranean Sea, which will bring snow and heavy rain to the Alpine regions a few days before Christmas.
In most of Europe, the character of the weather will change, but the central part of the continent will still remain outside the influence of the fronts. In our country, the high pressure will remain in the following days, probably until the Christmas holidays, and the inverse weather will continue. Precipitation is expected in the west, north and south of the region, but we will not see a single drop here. If snow lovers were hoping for a change, its arrival by Christmas is highly unlikely.
