Christmas decorations They appear in many homes during the Christmas season. We can place them in the window, on the table, on the fireplace, at the entrance door and wherever they will please the eyes of household members and guests. Most often, spruce, pine or fir branches are used to prepare them. Beautiful however, it can also be prepared using mistletoe.
It is a symbol of happiness, love, fertility and protection against evil. It is hung in the house during the holiday season to ensure prosperity for the next year. However, instead of placing it under the ceiling like every year, we can make simple ones out of it ornamentswhich will certainly attract the attention of visitors. How to do it?
Mistletoe is one of the symbols of the holidays. It appears in homes during the Christmas season because it is believed to have magical properties. Already in pre-Christian times, it was noticed that it remains green when other plants die.
Mistletoe bears fruit in winter, but it does not have roots reaching to the ground. It is a semi-parasitic shrub that grows on trees, drawing water and minerals from them. It is mainly associated with ensuring success for the next year, and kissing under it brings happiness and prosperity in a relationship.
We usually hang mistletoe from the ceiling, usually on a chandelier. However, instead of a few twigs tied with a ribbon, we can make beautiful, durable mistletoe decorations. A great idea is, for example, a mistletoe wreath to hang on the door or smaller wreaths in which candles or lanterns can be placed.
Mistletoe can also be used in garlands or on the holiday table. Moreover, its branches suspended from the ceiling can be decorated with bows, baubles or chains, thus creating a decorative centerpiece.
We don’t need many accessories to make mistletoe wreaths. Small wreaths can be made from mistletoe twigs, moss, wooden or paper stands and floral wire. We connect short twigs with wire into small circles. Suitable size to accommodate selected candles or lanterns.
Place the wreaths on stands. You can also use hot glue and attach them to them. To make the wreath look better, you can decorate it with moss, but also with other elements, such as cinnamon sticks, pine needles, pine cones or dried orange slices. In a similar way, you can make a larger wreath to hang on the door.
If we do not have ready-made lanterns and would like the terrace or balcony to also take on a Christmas atmosphere, we can make another decoration. We will need a jar, small tealight candles, small sprigs of mistletoe and a decorative ribbon or string. Wrap the upper part of the glass with a ribbon and stick mistletoe sprigs into it. We put a candle inside and it’s ready.
Let us just remember that although mistletoe is not under protection in Poland, it cannot be obtained from nature without the consent of the land owner. Fortunately, we can buy it at fairs, Christmas markets and in many stores. At home, create stunning decorations from it.
