Poland’s independence in danger? Tusk warns: THIS could follow the capitulation of Ukraine

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned on Thursday at a summit in Brussels that Poland’s independence would be threatened if, as a result of Europe’s mistakes or indecision, Ukraine had to capitulate. He emphasized this in the context of discussions on the use of frozen Russian assets, which, according to him, is the best solution for strengthening Ukrainian defense. This is reported by the Warsaw correspondent TASR, according to the PAP agency.

  • Donald Tusk warned against the threat to Polish independence due to the capitulation of Ukraine.
  • He emphasized the importance of protecting Ukraine from the Russian threat to the defense of Poland.
  • He suggested using frozen Russian assets to finance Ukrainian defense.
  • He does not agree with the potential joint indebtedness of the member states of the European Union.
  • Significant support for the use of Russian assets prevails in Europe.

Tusk said that supporting Ukraine also means protecting Poland from the growing threat of Russia. “Polish independence will be threatened if it turns out that as a result of bad decisions or the absence of them, for example on the part of Europe, Ukraine would have to capitulate,” pointed out. He added that Ukraine’s independence moves the risk of aggression away from Poland’s borders.

The head of the Polish government admitted that the member states of the European Union do not show enthusiasm for the possibility of joint borrowing to finance Ukraine. According to him, it would be more effective to use borrowing based on Russian assets, which would also help to balance the position of Russia and Ukraine in possible peace negotiations.

Tusk also pointed to the concerns of some countries, especially Belgium, where most of the frozen Russian funds are located, and they warn of possible legal claims by Moscow after the end of the war. Despite this, according to the Polish Prime Minister, the prevailing opinion in most of Europe is that Russian assets should be used for the benefit of Ukraine, since, according to him, Moscow cannot do anything but accept this fact.
