Conclusion of the coroner
Rob and Michele Reiner died from “multiple sharp force injuries,” according to new records from the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, which indicate the couple’s cause of death.
The couple’s son, Nick Reiner, is accused of fatally stabbing his parents.
The medical examiner determined the manner of death to be “homicide,” records released Wednesday show, indicating the deaths were caused by someone else.
Sharp force injuries are those caused by sharp or pointed objects. At a press conference on Tuesday, the Los Angeles County district attorney alleged that Nick Reiner used a knife to kill his parents.
According to records now released by the coroner, the famous director and his wife died on Sunday, December 14 – the day the bodies were later discovered and authorities called to the couple’s home in West Los Angeles.
The Reiners’ daughter, Romy, went to check on her parents that day, around 3pm local time, and discovered the bodies, a source revealed. He then crossed the street to his house and told a friend who was staying with him to call 911, the same source added.
The bodies were found in the home’s master bedroom, police said.
Coroner’s records indicate that the Reiners’ remains are ready to be released to their next of kin.
Although Nick Reiner is accused of killing his parents, little is known about what led to the alleged crime.
Nick Reiner was seen having an argument with his father at a Christmas party Saturday night at Conan O’Brien’s home in Los Angeles, according to a source familiar with the incident.
The mother, Michele Singer Reiner, was also present at the event, the same source added.
On Wednesday, Nick Reiner appeared briefly in court, where the formal reading of the indictment was scheduled for January 7th.
