Russian big man Matvei Safonov was a standout on PSG’s side and frustrated Flamengo’s dream of a second world championship in the Intercontinental final, played this Wednesday (17/12). The goalkeeper saved four shots from Rubro-Negro players. After the match, Rossi drew attention to the Russian’s method: Safonov used a towel with information about the red and black collectors.

– I can’t take credit away from the guy, he took four penalties. You can’t take any credit from him. He had his towel on during penalties – said Rossi, when commenting on the PSG goalkeeper’s performance.

In the penalty shootout, Safonov saved shots from Saúl, Pedro, Léo Pereira and Luiz Araújo. PSG lost with Dembélé and Barcola, but converted with Vitinha and Nuno Mendes. Flamengo only did it with De La Cruz.

In December last year, Safonov was the hero of PSG’s qualification in the French Cup precisely by saving penalties. The archer saved two penalties and helped the French team win the tournament.
