STF makes defendants accused of planning bomb attack – 12/17/2025 – Brasília Hoje

The First Panel of the (Supreme Federal Court) unanimously made defendants three accused at the airport on Christmas Eve 2022.

From then on, they began to face criminal proceedings in court for armed criminal association, attempted violent abolition of the democratic rule of law and coup d’état, as well as an attack on air transport security.

At this point in the process, ministers assess whether there is sufficient evidence of materiality and authorship to open criminal proceedings. The rapporteur, Cristiano Zanin, Cármen Lúcia and Flávio Dino voted in this sense.

George Washington de Oliveira Sousa, Alan Diego dos Santos and Wellington Macedo were accused by the (Attorney General’s Office) for the attempted explosion of a tanker truck on the outskirts of Brasília airport on December 24, 2022.

Moraes decreed the preventive detention of the accused on June 24.

The three were supporters of the former president (PL).

“There will not be a democratic State of Law without State Powers, independent and harmonious among themselves, as well as provision of fundamental rights and instruments that enable the monitoring and perpetuity of these requirements”, said Moraes, in the vote.

The trial takes place in the virtual plenary of the First Panel of the Supreme Court — a system through which ministers cast their votes, without discussion —, in an open session from last Friday (12) until next Friday (19).
