The majority association of civil guards does not agree with the DGT in replacing the triangles with the V16 beacon | Today in EL PAÍS: your daily podcast

Starting in January, if you have a breakdown or accident, triangles will no longer be useful. It will be mandatory to carry a beacon connected to Traffic. The change is creating quite a mess: the AUGC, the majority association of the Civil Guard, believes that this beacon does not protect enough. In addition, beacons are being sold as approved with which you can be penalized.

Traffic says that this will reduce the risk of accidents by placing the triangles, but the countdown is full of doubts. On the one hand, it is not clear which models sold are really valid and which are not. On the other hand, there are experts who believe that the beacon, by itself, does not improve road safety.

In this episode we have heard from Ana Blanco, who is deputy deputy director of the DGT; to Olaya Salarón, Civil Guard of Traffic and spokesperson for the AUGC; and Rubén Sánchez, general secretary of FACUA.

If you have complaints, doubts or suggestions, write to or send an audio to (does not answer calls).
