Tragedy at the airport: The plane crash claimed several lives!

A smaller plane crashed at a regional airport in the US state of North Carolina on Thursday, which was subsequently engulfed in fire. Several people lost their lives, local television station WBTV reported, citing police. TASR informs about it according to the agencies DPA and AP.

Cessna C550 private plane crashed on landing at Statesville Airport around 10:20 a.m. local time (4:20 p.m. CET), according to data from the Federal Aviation Administration. Further details have not yet been published.

Local media footage showed dark smoke over the runway and rescuers rushing to the crash site. A witness told WSOC-TV that the plane was flying very low. Statesville Regional Airport is about an hour’s drive from Charlotte, North Carolina’s largest city. According to its website, it provides services for several major companies and several NASCAR teams.
