Vondráčková will watch her Crazy Sad Princess even today: She is still surprised by one thing!

Looking at the always perfectly groomed Helena Vondráčková, few would guess that she is 78 years old. No wonder. The actress and singer lives a very active life. She exercises regularly and still hasn’t resented performing. The face of young Vondráčková is associated with the Christmas holidays every year. At that time, the 21-year-old artist starred in the fairy tale The Crazy Sad Princess. In an interview, she revealed how she perceives her role years later.

The Crazy Sad Princess is a Czechoslovak film fairy tale from 1968 that became an icon thanks to its imaginative humor, catchy songs and an unmistakable cast. The story follows Princess Helenka, played by Vondráčková, and Prince Miroslav, played by Václav Neckář. Their kingdoms are strictly separated from each other by a wall, and their parents – kings played by Bohuslav Záhorský and Josef Kemr – are constantly at odds.

However, Princess Helenka is not an ordinary princess, she is “crazily sad” because she is suffocated by her duties and the ideas of others about her life. Prince Miroslav, on the other hand, refuses to accept the fact that he should marry someone he does not know. When both young people decide to take fate into their own hands, a series of unexpected and funny situations arise, during which they gradually become closer and learn how to find their own path to love and freedom.

Even after years, the actress likes to return to the fairy tale. But he does not feel nostalgia. “Sometimes, when I have time, I let it go and decorate, for example, a tree and so on. It’s not like I’m sitting and looking at myself with love, I’m not,” she admitted openly.

He stands behind the quality of this film. “But it was a successful film. One, I think, of Bořivoj Zeman’s most beautiful fairy tales and fairy tales in general. I’m glad that actually even the young and the youngest generation knows who the insanely sad princess is” she said enthusiastically.
