Former Prešov city and regional deputy Rudolf Dupkala, convicted for the crime of accepting a bribe, will serve the rest of his five-year prison sentence under house arrest. The Prešov District Court decided on this on Friday. The spokeswoman of the Regional Court in Prešov, Ivana Petrufová, confirmed the verdict for TASR.

As she informed, the district judge accepted the proposal of the Director of the Institute for execution of the prison sentence to convert the rest of the sentence of imprisonment of the convicted into a sentence of house arrest. At the same time, all formal and material conditions for the conversion of the rest of the sentence were met, which the present prosecutor agreed with. The judge commuted the remainder of the convict’s sentence to house arrest for three years, two months and 15 days.
“During the period of serving the sentence of house arrest, the convict may leave his home only with the prior consent of the probation and mediation officer or the body that administers the technical control over the convicted person, and only for an urgent reason for the absolutely necessary time, which is counted towards serving the sentence,” said Petrufová.
At the same time, the District Court ordered the control of the convict by technical means, namely a personal identification device and a presence control device. Among other things, the convicted person is obliged, on the basis of the court’s order, to get a job while serving the sentence of house arrest or to apply for a demonstrable job. The decision is final.
Dupkala was sentenced for corruption by the Specialized Criminal Court to five years in prison with placement in a minimum security institution. The judgment became final on March 5, 2024 in connection with the decision of the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic.
According to the indictment, the ex-MP was involved in a corruption case demand a bribe of 20,000 euros from the investor of the training ice surface in April 2018. At the meeting of the city council, when approving a financial contribution in the amount of 600,000 euros, he was supposed to vote in favor of the proposed solution, which was submitted by the applicant – investor. The defendant denied asking for or accepting a bribe.
