First US hypersonic weapon ready this month. Problem: effectiveness

Almost 10 billion euros spent by the Pentagon, in an investment that began seven years ago. But combat effectiveness is a question.

Os hypersonic missiles they reach very high speeds, namely more than 6,100 kilometers per hour. They reach speeds up to five times the speed of sound.

Another clear advantage of these weapons is that they fly at low altitudes, which makes them more difficult to intercept by conventional air defense systems.

Russia has already used this technology in attacks against Ukraine. Just last week, the Kremlin announced that it had bombed Ukrainian energy and military facilities with Kinjal hypersonic missiles.

Russia and China have already been deploying new hypersonic weapons – and, also because of this, the pressure on USA increases in this sense.

The US Army had presented a deadline for the debut of this technology: September 30, 2023. It failed. After: September 30, 2025.

But now, and after an investment of almost 10 billion euros dthe Pentagon since 2018, it seems like this.

US military personnel say they are on track to have their first operational hypersonic weapon later this month.

But there is a problem: this land-based missile system, codenamed Dark Eagle, has not yet proven effective in combat.

“We can confirm that deliveries remain on schedule to ensure operational readiness in calendar year 2025,” the Army stated.

Not so much, effectiveness ea long-term viability of the missile system has not yet been proven in rigorous operational testing, the army added in a statement to Bloomberg.
