Case is generating comparisons with the conviction of Dominique Pelicot
A German man has been found guilty of drugging, raping and filming his unconscious wife for years, in a case that is drawing comparisons to the trial of Dominique Pelicot in France.
The 61-year-old janitor was found guilty of abusing his wife at home, filming her and then sharing the crimes online without the victim’s knowledge.
He was sentenced this Friday to eight years and six months in prison, following a trial in a court in Aachen, in the Cologne region. The sentence can be appealed within a week.
The verdict comes exactly one year after Frenchman Pelicot – who for around ten years asked dozens of strangers to rape and abuse his then wife, Gisèle – was found guilty of aggravated rape. Forty-nine other men were found guilty of rape or sexual assault.
