Jader: Our objective is to provide security to families in Favela do Moinho

The Minister of Cities, Jader Filhohe stated in an interview with CNN Brazil that the political dispute surrounding the project in Favela do Moinhoin São Paulo, which can be presented by the governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) and by the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) as a management showcase, should not occur at this time.

According to the minister, “the objective that must be done now, by all of us, is to provide security to the families of Favela do Moinho so that they have the right to have a home where they can take care of their families safely.”

“This dispute must happen in the election”, continued Jader, in an interview with CNN 360ºon the afternoon of this Thursday (18).

According to Jader Filho, some of the families have already signed contracts and are looking for properties, while others have already been included through the assisted purchase model.

According to the minister, the initiative follows the same format adopted in Rio Grande do Sul, where “more than 9,000 families have already received the keys to their homes”, he stated. The expectation is that the same model will benefit around 900 families in Favela do Moinho.

The minister explained that all families that fall into band two of the program, with an income of up to R$4,400, will have the right to own their own home. “The federal government contributes R$180 thousand per housing unit, while the government of São Paulo contributes R$70 thousand”, informed Jader Filho.

Favela do Moinho

The community in the central region of the capital of São Paulo is the target of a clash between the federal government and the state government after being identified by the MPSP (Public Ministry of São Paulo) as a strategic area for organized crime, described as a “source of drug supply and command center” of the PCC (First Command of the Capital).

Since the São Paulo government announced the removal of residents to create a park there, the area began to record clashes between residents and police.

At the beginning of this year, in April, the São Paulo government accused the government at the same time that it began evacuating families.

to try to pacify the impasse and define responsibilities for the eviction and resettlement of families.
