Afghanistan experienced another earthquake, this time in the Hindu Kush. The magnitude reached 5.7, the epicenter was near Kunduz. The tremors were also felt in Kabul, so far without confirmed consequences.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 hit the Hindu Kush mountain range in Afghanistan early Friday morning local time. This was announced by the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), reports TASR with reference to the Reuters agency.

The tremors were also felt in the capital Kabul and the surrounding areas. Reports of casualties or damage were not immediately available.

At least 27 people were killed and 956 injured when a 6.3-magnitude earthquake hit several northern Afghan provinces in early November.

Previous tragedies

In late August, a 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck Kunar province in eastern Afghanistan, killing more than 2,200 and injuring around 4,000.

Earthquakes are frequent in Afghanistan, especially in the Hindu Kush region, which lies in a highly active seismic zone where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates meet.
