Christmas Eve and Christmas are days when various superstitions gain power. A carp scale in your wallet, hay under the tablecloth, twelve dishes – this is just the beginning. There are many more rituals, and we present one that is worth knowing. Thanks to it, you can make it in 2026!

Christmas this year falls on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. These days are filled with a kind of magic that touches on superstitions. Most of them concern the first day. During Christmas Eve dinner, it is worth remembering a few rituals – most people have probably heard about the need to try all the dishes and carp scales. What about lesser-known superstitions? They can also be implemented, because who knows… What if they work?

On Christmas Eve, before you sit down at the table, put a coin under your plate. It should be placed on the tablecloth directly under the dish from which you will eat. When setting a table consisting of a deep, small and large plate, the coin should be placed under the latter.

Superstitions (not only on Christmas Eve) are usually used for superstitions one grosz coin. However, if you don’t have one in your wallet, you can use other denominations. Putting it under a plate and leaving it there until the Christmas Eve dinner is over is supposed to attract money. This superstition works on a similar principle to carp scales.

Moreover, if you prepare Christmas Eve dinner in advance (decorate the table in the morning and set the tableware), then it is worth putting the coin under the so-called plate. angelic hour, i.e. 11:11. This can further enhance the effect. However, the most important thing is to put a penny under the plate before dinner. It is good to keep such a coin – believers can also bless it. Later, such a coin will be useful, among others, for the Epiphany ritual.
