This Friday (19), the company carries out search and seizure warrants against federal deputies and Carlos Jordy, both from Rio de Janeiro and allies of the former president.
The PF operation does not take place in the parliamentary offices of Sóstenes and Jordy in Brasília. The seven warrants, authorized by Minister Flávio Dino, of the (Supreme Federal Court), are fulfilled in the Federal District and Rio de Janeiro.
The objective of the operation is to deepen investigations into embezzlement of public resources from parliamentary quotas, according to the corporation.
“According to the investigations, political agents, commissioned employees and private individuals would have acted in a coordinated manner to divert and subsequently hide public funds,” said the PF.
The parliamentary quota is a monthly amount that the deputy receives to cover expenses incurred during the term of office, such as office rental in the state, airline tickets and car rental, among others.
Leader of the PL in the Chamber, Sóstenes has led criticism of the STF in the party after Bolsonaro’s arrest. Last week, he called him a “psychopathic dictator”, after the magistrate (PL-SP) in the Chamber.
Jordy published a video on social media and called the action “cowardly.” According to him, the justification for the search and seizure is that he had diverted resources from the parliamentary quota to a closed car rental company.
“Being that it is the same company that I have been renting cars from since the beginning of my first term. The same company that Deputy Sóstenes, which I believe is also being targeted for search and seizure, has been renting vehicles from the same company since the beginning of his first term. Their claim is crude, they say that the number of vehicles from this company draws a lot of attention,” he said.
When contacted by the report, Sóstenes has not yet spoken out.
This is the second PF operation against parliamentarians authorized by Dino this week. On Tuesday (16), search and seizure warrants were executed against federal deputy Antônio Leocádio dos Santos, as part of an investigation into the embezzlement of public funds through bidding fraud.
