When a private plane crashed at an airport in the American state of North Carolina on Thursday, all seven people on board lost their lives. Former American NASCAR racer Greg “Biff” Biffle is also one of the victims. AP and DPA agencies write about it.
The Cessna C550 private plane crashed while landing at Statesville Airport around 10:20 a.m. local time (4:20 p.m. CET), according to data from the Federal Aviation Administration. The plane caught fire after the crash.
“Although the post-crash fire prevents us from releasing a final passenger list at this time, it is believed that Mr. Gregory Biffle and members of his immediate family were passengers on the plane,” state police said. He was on the plane with his wife Cristina and their children Ryder and Emma.
Biffle, 55, won more than 50 NASCAR races during his career. “Greg was more than just a champion, he was a beloved member of the NASCAR community, a fierce competitor, and a friend to many. “His passion for racing, integrity and dedication to both fans and fellow racers have had a lasting impact on the sport,” NASCAR said in a statement.
