Ahmed al Ahmed, the man who became known as the hero of the Bondi beach attack in Sydney, received a donation worth 2.5 million Australian dollars, the equivalent of around 1.4 million euros. The gesture comes as recognition for the courage shown in managing to disarm one of the shooters involved in the attack that left 15 dead.
Aged 43 and father of two girls, Ahmed remains in hospital, where he is recovering from gunshot wounds suffered in the attack on December 14. It was still in his hospital bed that he received the news about the fundraising and the corresponding check.
The moment was shared on social media by Zachery Dereniowsky, content creator who launched the campaign on the GoFundMe platform. In the video, the influencer explains that more than 43 thousand people, from various parts of the world, contributed to reaching the final donation amount.
Faced with the revelation, Ahmed appeared surprised and questioned whether he deserved such a gesture. Zachery’s response was immediate and without hesitation, ensuring that each contribution was made with complete conviction and recognition for his act of bravery.
Ahmed al Ahmed’s story became a symbol of courage and solidarity, mobilizing thousands of people who wanted to support someone who risked his own life to save others.
