There are 3 or 4 candidates for Fed presidency; Bowman and Waller are “fantastic”

US President Donald Trump said he is interviewing “three or four” candidates for Federal Reserve (Fed) presidency, while answering questions in the Oval Office of the White House this afternoon. Asked directly about director Christopher Waller and BC Vice President of Supervision, Michelle Bowman, Trump said they were both “fantastic”.

“Waller is great, he’s been at the Fed for a long time and he’s fantastic,” said the Republican. Asked if Bowman is still in the running, he replied: “Bowman is a fantastic person.” In addition to the current Fed directors, former director Kevin Warsh and White House economic advisor Kevin Hassett are vying for the position of head of the central bank. According to the American president, the decision will be announced in the coming weeks.

Regarding the economy, Trump reiterated that he intends to solve problems in the real estate sector, including housing prices, to “help” the American population buy homes. The Republican also repeated that the United States is receiving “billions of dollars from tariffs, but without an increase in inflation”.

The American president also pressured Congress to resolve the impasse surrounding Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies, again advocating that money earmarked for healthcare be sent directly to the population. “This could be done quickly, if the Democrats helped,” he pointed out.

Regarding geopolitics, Trump ruled out having any concerns about speaking to Congress about attacks against Venezuela. Regarding Eastern Europe, the Republican stated that Ukrainians must move “quickly” to comply with the peace agreement, before Russia changes its mind about a ceasefire. “I hope to end the war in Ukraine soon,” he said, considering that negotiations are “ongoing” and close to a conclusion.
