US President Donald Trump on Thursday called on Ukraine to “quickly” reach an agreement to end the Russian invasion. His words came ahead of the expected negotiations, which, according to media reports, should be conducted by the delegations of Washington and Moscow in Miami, Florida, over the weekend. TASR informs about it with reference to the AFP agency.
“Well, they’re getting close to something, but I hope Ukraine acts quickly. I hope Ukraine acts quickly because Russia is there.” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “And you know, whenever they take too long, Russia changes its mind,” he added.
Politico magazine reported on the negotiations in Miami on Wednesday, citing two sources. According to one of the sources, special envoy Kirill Dmitriyev should also be part of the Russian delegation. Traditionally, the American side should be represented by Trump’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. According to one Politico source, Ukrainian negotiator Rustem Umerov may meet with the American delegation before then.
Trump announced on Thursday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will probably visit him during Christmas. “Yeah, he’ll probably come to visit me in Florida,” Trump confirmed. “He would like to see me. We haven’t made a formal arrangement yet, but he would like to see me.” the American president continued. AFP reported on Thursday, citing a White House source, that Witkoff is expected to meet with representatives of Qatar, Egypt and Turkey before the talks in Miami on Friday. Together, they should discuss the next phase of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
