The same authorities reported this Thursday that they are investigating the link between the shooting at Brown University and the crime that killed Portuguese MIT professor Nuno Loureiro
Investigators believe they have identified a suspect six days after the shooting that killed two students and injured nine others at Brown University, US media reported.
The CNN station cited two agents linked to the case, who said that investigators believe they have identified a suspect in the shooting at Brown University.
CBS News also released similar information, reported agency France-Presse (AFP).
US authorities said this Thursday that they are investigating the murder of Portuguese MIT professor Nuno Loureiro in Boston.
According to three people connected to the matter, who were not authorized to discuss an ongoing investigation and who therefore spoke on condition of anonymity, told the Associated Press (AP) news agency that investigators had identified a suspect linked to the two shootings and were actively looking for that person.
The attacker in Providence, Rhode Island, killed two students on Saturday and injured nine others in a classroom in the school’s engineering building before managing to escape.
About 80 kilometers (50 miles) to the north, MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) professor Nuno Loureiro, 47, was shot dead in his home on Monday night, in the Boston suburb of Brookline.
The FBI previously said it was not aware of any connection between the two cases.
Other high-profile attacks have also taken days or longer to make an arrest or find those responsible, including the New York street killing of the UnitedHealthcare CEO last year, which took five days.
In Providence, authorities searched for evidence and urged the public to check any cellphone or security footage they may have from the week before the attack, believing the shooter may have studied the location in advance.
Investigators released several videos from the hours and minutes before and after the shooting that showed a person who police said matched the description given by witnesses of the shooter.
