Can you choose between Christmas trees? A regular shape and a nice height are not really enough.
Types of Christmas trees and their characteristics
Christmas is a time when the family spends nice time together and buying a tree is often . Some take it as a joint trip to the hobby market or the markets, while others, on the contrary, get to buy at the last minute when the search is stressful. And there are those who order trees online and wait for them to be delivered to their homes.
Each method of purchase clearly has its pros and cons. You can imagine what can go wrong. Of course, a live cut tree does not belong in a warm apartment, and that is why it suffers and withers quickly. In addition, if you choose a tree in poor condition, it will not last until Christmas Day.
You can typically choose from these three types: spruce, fir and pine. Everyone has something in them and it’s definitely not just about the shape.
Spruce – a classic of Czech Christmas. It has a typical scent, is light and affordable. The downside is that it loses needles faster and is fragile.
Fir tree – more durable, holds needles longer, has a beautiful shape and a pleasant smell. Firs tend to be the most expensive and also need a lot of water. Remember that.
Pine – it smells nice, its needles are very long and the branches are sparser than in other species. Nevertheless, even the pine tree has something in it. Nice pine trees tend to be smaller.
It is not always possible to choose for a long time, and any tree at home will surely please. You can always decorate it nicely and stylishly. You can find this year’s trends in the image gallery.

How to recognize a fresh tree?
The biggest mistake often occurs when choosing in the store. We only look at the shape or size. But there are a few tricks to quickly check the quality. It is important to:
- Needles – should be flexible, deep green and clinging to the branches. If it breaks or falls off when lightly shaken, the sapling is no longer fresh.
- Scent – a strong resinous smell is a good sign that the tree is fresh.
- Twigs – try bending one twig. If it bends and doesn’t break, the tree is probably fresh.
- Strain – the trunk cut should be fresh and moist, not dry. Ideally, have it freshly adjusted at the dealer.
- You can also slightly lift the tree by the trunk and weigh it down.A heavier sapling usually contains more water and lasts longer.
To make it last, you have to care
When you bring the tree home, the first thing you should do is have it right away place in water. The most common mistake is to let the tree stand for a few hours or days without water. Leave it outside for as long as possible, gradually move it to a cooler corridor and then to a room to avoid thermal shock.
Another common mistake is to place it near a radiator, which speeds up drying. If it’s not possible elsewhere, at least reduce the radiator to minimum.
- At home, cut the tree by about 3 cm and immediately place it in water.
- The water level should still be sufficient, a daily check is necessary.
- You can add tree food to the water, but only before decorating.
- Move the tree to room temperature gradually. The final location should be the coldest corner, turn down the heating here.
- Remove lower branches only if necessary for the stand.
- Check the needles if they start to drop massively, become too dry and warm.
