Algarve Intermunicipal Community foresees budget of 21.2 million euros in 2026

AMAL (Algarve Intermunicipal Community) foresees a budget of 21.25 million euros in 2026, focusing on the operationalization of European funds and in sectors such as mobility, digital transition, environment and social areas.

The proposed Major Plan Options (GOP) and budget for 2026 were approved last week, in Lagos, but will still be submitted for approval at the meeting of the AMAL Intermunicipal Assembly scheduled for December 23rd, the note reads.

“The year 2026 marks the beginning of a new municipal cycle, which translates into a new composition of the Intermunicipal Council, resulting from the October municipal elections, and among AMAL’s main lines of intervention will be the management of European funds from two programs”, he adds.

The first is Algarve 2023, which will allow the continuity of ITI AMAL (for projects in the areas of waste, water, health, education, combating climate change, urban requalification and digital transformation) and PADRE 2 (for investments in low-density territories). The second is the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), with funds allocated to the Algarve Water Efficiency Program.

In the area of ​​mobility, AMAL plans to launch a new competition for road passenger transport – VAMUS Algarve 2026-2034.

According to the statement, this second concession will allow “to improve the passenger transport service in the region and continue the commitment to the decarbonization of the sector”, considering that next year assumes “particular relevance” for AMAL, as

regional transport authority. The institution formed by the 16 Algarve municipalities also considers it important to reinforce the digital transition over the next year, investing in “robust information systems” to allow “to provide the region with more solid foundations for informed and safe decision-making”.

In the environmental area, it will be a year in which the climate action plans of all municipalities will be completed, providing for the updating of the Intermunicipal Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change (PIAAC).

With regard to the social aspect, 2026 will be marked by the “decisive start” of the implementation of the Algarve Social Development Plan, adds the statement.

The Supramunicipal Social Platform will also be “energized” and a set of indicators will be made available that will allow monitoring the social situation in the region, the note reads.

The is formed by the 16 municipalities of the Algarve: Albufeira, Alcoutim, Aljezur, Castro Marim, Faro, Lagoa, Lagos, Loulé, Monchique, Olhão, Portimão, S. Brás de Alportel, Silves, Tavira, Vila do Bispo and Vila Real de Santo António.
