Prepared from dried plums, apples, pears and other fruits, it is supposed to bring health and longevity to mind. Its distinctive taste wins the hearts of many people, but not everyone. For those who don’t like this drink, luckily they exist tasty alternatives that can also be served on the holiday table.

Dried compote, although it is one of the Christmas classics, it has as many opponents as supporters. Its heavy and smoky flavor is something that isn’t to everyone’s taste, so it’s good to know a little about it sweeter and more delicate alternatives. One of them is a Christmas Eve compote, which can be made from cranberries and apples.

Such a drink not only has a pleasant, slightly sour taste, but also… a large dose of nutritional values, vitamins and minerals. Cranberries have a beneficial effect on immunity and digestion. So there is such a festive drink lighter on the stomach and more refreshing.

Moreover, it looks beautiful in a carafe on the table, and what’s more tastes good both warm and cold. Certainly, due to its sweet taste, it is a favorite of the youngest, but it also steals the hearts of adults. The taste obtained by cooking sour cranberries and apples with the addition of honey becomes pleasantly balanced, which enriched with spicy spices, it fits perfectly into the Christmas atmosphere.

Cranberry and apple compote it is full of flavor and is easy to prepare. Interestingly, preparation takes much less time than in the case of classic dried fruit compote. So if you are looking for inspiration for a breath of freshness on the holiday table or one of the household members does not like dried compote, be sure to prepare this festive drink.

The ingredient list is quite short and includes the following products:

  • 300 g cranberries
  • 3-4 apples
  • 1.5 liters of water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • A few cloves
  • Honey
  • A little orange juice
  • Optional: 2-3 star anise

Preparation method:

Put the washed cranberries into the pot. Rinse the apples thoroughly and cut into quarters or eighths. Add to the cranberries, along with the rest of the spices. Pour water over everything and cook covered over low heat for about 30-40 minutes. After this time, remove from heat and add honey and a cinnamon stick. Sweeten the drink according to your sweetness preferences.

Set aside to cool. If the fruit has cracked, strain the drink through cheesecloth or a strainer to obtain a clear, delicious compote. Serve cold or warmed up on Christmas Eve. As a decoration, you can add cranberries, a slice of lemon or a cinnamon stick to the carafe and cups. The served drink will become even more festive. Enjoy your meal!
