It’s a thunderbolt. The Australian government has decided to ban young people under the age of 16 from using social media. The fact that cell phones have to be switched off in Austrian schools seems harmless in comparison. Clearly, telematic machines are not only an effective aid, but also a disruptive element that hinders independent thinking, concentration, education and learning. Beyond the addictive aspect of Tik Tok & Co, it makes a difference whether I copy passages from digital “apps” and combine them with each other or whether I am able to develop an understanding and language for the world in which I live through intensive reading and critical reading.
