Rubio: Progress in Ukrainian, but there is still a way to go – What he said about Maduro

Ρούμπιο: Πρόοδος στο ουκρανικό, αλλά υπάρχει ακόμα δρόμος – Τι είπε για Μαδούρο

Progress in ending the war, states the Foreign Minister in his statements, clarifying however that there is still a long way to go for an agreement to be reached. As he pointed out: “The last issues in a negotiation are always the hardest.”

Rubio was quick to stress that the ongoing talks are not intended to force a deal on any of the parties involved, while making it clear that the process that has begun should lead to a lasting and sustainable solution.

What did he say about Venezuela?

Referring to Venezuela, Rubio said the United States was not concerned about a possible escalation with Russia on the issue, adding that Moscow was expected to offer rhetorical support to the Maduro regime.

He stressed that the US does not recognize the legitimacy of Nicolás Maduro and that the main goal of US policy is regional stability and security, as well as the defense of the national interests of the United States.

He also pointed out that armed groups such as the ELN and FARC are operating openly and controlling territory inside Venezuela, which is a key point of concern for Washington.

Finally, referring to other international issues, he stated that if Hamas is again in a position to threaten or attack Israel, there can be no peace, while for Sudan he emphasized that the immediate goal of the US is the cessation of hostilities and the achievement of a humanitarian truce at the beginning of the new year.
