Terminator fans will probably be disappointed: Why won’t Schwarzenegger star in the popular series?

Director James Cameron (71) spoke about the future of the Terminator film series and also confirmed that Arnold Schwarzenegger (78) will not appear in further sequels. The creator of the cult sci-fi saga said he plans to revive the brand with a new cast and an emphasis on new ideas. Cameron said this in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, where he openly talked about the next direction of the series.

When asked about the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger, he answered unequivocally: “I can say with certainty that he will not return.” The director explained why he decided to make the change.

“It’s time for a new generation of characters. I insisted that Arnold be involved in Terminator: Dark Fate, and it was a great ending to his T-800 role. There needs to be a broader take on the Terminator and the very idea of the Time War and superintelligence. I want to do new things that people can’t even imagine yet.” Cameron added.

Schwarzenegger has appeared in every film in the series to date, with the exception of 2009’s Terminator: Salvation, which starred Christian Bale and Sam Worthington.
