The US launches a “massive attack” against ISIS in Syria after the attack against its troops over the weekend | International

The United States launched several airstrikes this Friday against dozens of Islamic State targets in Syria, according to two US officials. President Donald Trump had vowed to retaliate for , when an ISIS member attacked a convoy of US and Syrian forces before being killed, according to the Pentagon. Three other American soldiers were wounded in the attack.

“US troops have begun a large-scale attack against the infrastructure and weapons depots of the Islamic State in Syria. This massive attack follows the December 13 attack against US and allied forces,” the US Central Command announced in a brief statement.

ISIS attacked the US military in central Syria when they were participating in support of an anti-terrorist operation against the jihadist group. Three other soldiers were injured in the attack. Trump lamented “the loss of three great American patriots in Syria” and stated that it was an “Islamic State attack against the United States and Syria” in “an area that is not fully controlled” by the Syrian authorities.
