Defender Thiago Silva, 41 years old, was announced this Saturday (20) as a new reinforcement for Porto, from Portugal.
The defender had terminated his contract with Fluminense on Tuesday (17), which was valid until June 2026, after being eliminated by Vasco in the semi-finals of the Copa do Brasil.
Thiago Silva already played for the Portuguese team in the 2004/2005 season, but on that occasion he only played for Porto B, before moving on to Dynamo Moscow, in Russia.
“It is, therefore, like the closing of a perfect cycle, with the return to a home that you already know, in search of what was missing at the time: glory in the main team”, highlighted Porto in a statement.
The contract is valid until the end of the current season, in June 2026, with the possibility of extension for another year.
One of the main defenders in Brazilian and world football in recent years, Thiago Silva gained prominence on the national scene from his first spell at Fluminense, between 2006 and 2008, when he won the Copa do Brasil in 2007.
He then went on to a successful career abroad, with spells at Milan, PSG (Paris Saint-Germain) and Chelsea, having won the Champions League (2020/21) with the English team, in addition to the Italian Serie A title (2010/11) and the French Championship seven times.
He defended the Brazilian team in four editions of the World Cup (2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022), and won the Confederations Cup, in 2013, and the Copa América, in 2019.
