A delicious last-minute Christmas Eve compote. There is no bitterness, everyone likes it

Christmas Eve compote with oranges is a way to modernize the tradition and soften the intense aroma of old drinks. Many people do not like the heavy, smoked taste of plums, which is why their smoked version is increasingly being abandoned in favor of more delicate, dried fruits. Thanks to this the compote becomes lighter, more pleasant and fruitier.

The sweetness of honey, the sourness of cranberries and the spicy aroma of spices create a composition that warms you pleasantly and smells wonderful. The addition of fresh orange makes the drink fresher, more citrusy and goes perfectly with Christmas Eve dishes. This compote is delicious for both adults and children.

Ingredients:

  • 100 g dried apples,
  • 100 g dried pears,
  • 150 g dried plums,
  • 50 g dried cranberries,
  • orange,
  • 6 cloves,
  • cinnamon stick,
  • 3 liters of water,
  • about 2 tablespoons of honey,
  • lemon juice (optional).

How to do it:

1. Soak the dried fruit in lukewarm water an hour before preparing the compote. Rinse the orange and cut it into slices.

2. Pour 3 liters of water into a suitably large pot (when measuring the water, include the water in which the fruit was soaked). Add dried fruit, cinnamon, cloves and orange slices. Boil.

3. Cook over low heat for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally. During this time, the fruit should become soft and the compote should become dark in color and have a distinct aroma. Sweeten the compote to taste with honey. If you want, add some lemon juice too.

4. Strain the compote and pour it into a jug. Add some fruit. You can serve the rest of the fruit as a snack.
