Viviane Barci Moraes, wife of Federal Supreme Court minister Alexandre de Moraes, saw her personal wealth grow from R$24 million to R$79.7 million in the period from 2023 to 2024. The information is from Lauro Jardim, columnist for the newspaper O Globo.

Viviane is a lawyer and controls law firms linked to the family. According to the columnist, on September 22, she registered a new office, Barci e Barci, in Brasília. This happened on the same day that Donald Trump decreed that the Lex Institute of Legal Studies be added to the Magnitsky Act sanctions.

At the time, both Viviane and Moraes were already suffering from the effects of Magnistsky. The company Lex is run by the minister’s wife and his children, and owns ten properties.

End of US sanction

Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes left the list of those sanctioned by the Global Magnitsky Law maintained by the United States government on December 12th. The decision also revoked similar measures applied to lawyer Viviane Barci de Moraes, the minister’s wife, and Lex Instituto de Estudos Jurídicas LTDA, an entity linked to Moraes’ family. Both were listed as associated targets in the sanctions package.

The sanctions prevented Moraes from carrying out financial operations in dollars, maintaining assets in American territory or establishing commercial relationships with companies and institutions based in the United States, in addition to restricting his entry into the country.

The Magnitsky Act is used by the American government to punish foreign officials accused of human rights violations or involvement in corruption schemes, allowing the freezing of assets and the imposition of financial and migratory restrictions.
