First “Avatar” film, released in 2009, leads the all-time box office with $2.9 billion in global ticket sales
Director James Cameron’s third cinematic adventure, “Avatar”, grossed around US$345 million, equivalent to R$1.9 billion, at box offices around the world this opening weekend, distributor Walt Disney reported this Sunday.
Estimated sales for “Avatar: Fire and Ashes” were in line with pre-weekend forecasts of at least $340 million.
The U.S. and Canadian box office accounted for $88 million of the total, Disney said.
Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington voice the main characters in the series “Avatar,” the story of a clan of eight-foot-tall blue beings known as Na’vi who are forced to fight to protect their family and their planet from human invaders.
