Former president is under house arrest and obtained judicial authorization to perform surgery that confirmed localized peritonitis
The former president of Argentina underwent surgery on Saturday (20) due to appendicitis and is recovering “without complications”, the Otamendi hospital said in a medical bulletin.
Kirchner had been admitted to this medical center in Buenos Aires on Saturday after experiencing abdominal pain. The establishment reported that laparoscopic surgery was performed which confirmed the diagnosis of “appendicitis with localized peritonitis” and that the patient is recovering “without postoperative complications”.
The former president had been transferred to the medical center with judicial authorization from her apartment in Buenos Aires, where she is serving a six-year sentence of house arrest for corruption.
Kirchner, 72, was president of Argentina between 2007 and 2015 and vice president between 2019 and 2023.
