When interfering with the Office for the Protection of Whistleblowers (ÚOO) the parliamentary debate did not suffer, because the deputies discussed the law for two weeks. This was announced by the Minister of Defense Robert Kaliňák (Smer-SD) in the Sunday discussion program of Joj 24 Politika 24 television, saying that a different situation would arise if the proposal came to the parliament in the morning and the plenum approved it in the afternoon. According to him, the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic does not have uniformity in procedures because it has not suspended the effectiveness of other laws in the past.
Kaliňák also stated that he thinks that changes to the Specialized Criminal Court are already being worked on. “One of those things is that basically it would create a classic standard appeals process against some arbitrary actions. But I really wouldn’t miss the specialized court within that system. I think so there are enough experts in the regional courts who are able to deal with this,” zoomed in.
The Deputy Prime Minister also responded to the statements of police chief Jana Maškarová from the press conference on Friday (December 19). The head of the Police Force thinks so changes in the Criminal Code related to the statements of the cooperating accused adopted by the National Council of the Slovak Republic as part of the amendment to the Criminal Code they can make it difficult for the police to investigate. According to him, this is not a threat. He declared that courts have in some cases convicted people based solely on the testimony of a cooperating defendant. He did not mention specific cases.
According to the head of the Ministry of Defense, he is at the same time a coalition voter dissatisfied mainly because the cases from the previous government are being investigated slowly. “I think that in this case everyone can assess why the coalition voter is the least satisfied, and that is the poor efficiency of the Ministry of the Interior in the investigation of those criminal acts in the recent period“, says Kaliňák.
In the session, the minister once again defended purchases in his department. He responded to the criticism of the non-parliamentary party Democrats about the conclusion of the contract with an error he takes the mistake on himself. It should have happened during digitization in the preamble of the document. So it is executable. At the same time, he criticized the representatives of the Democrats.
