For many years, they were a “part” of Czechoslovak households as announcers. Until, however Nora Beňačková (81) and Ada Straková (77) got on TV screens, they had to go through a really demanding auditionwhich was remembered in .
During the 2-day audition, the management chose from among 120 girls from all over Slovakia and applicants had to meet two conditions right from the start – have a university degree and master two foreign languages. Then he followed an intelligence test that consisted of 60 questions and they had a minute for each of them.
“We worked at a time when our profession was recognized. However, we did it with great humility and professionalism. People still remember us and want to take pictures with us even years later. We pride ourselves on not losing sight of our viewers, although quite a few decades have passed since the last time we were on the screen as program announcers,” she told Magpie.
During their time on television, the charming ladies have also cultivated a following that is still active in the media. Among them are Hana Rapantová, Renáta Špačková, Alena Heribanová, Ľubo Bajaník or Marianna Ďurianová with Braň Král. Seasoned professionals, however, acknowledged that today’s generation of moderators has it much more difficult.
“The messages they have to deliver to the audience are very demanding and I think it takes a toll on them as well. They often have conversations that drain energy and don’t put a smile on their face. I think that when the world gets back to normal, they will also feel better and work better. And I keep my fingers crossed for them to pursue Slovak exactly as it should be. And to maybe lower their voice a little, because they have it very high, I don’t know why. I like baritone voices,” concluded the lady Beňačková.
