One person was killed and another was injured in Israeli attacks in Lebanon

Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon claimed one victim on Sunday. Another person was injured, Lebanon’s health ministry said. The Israeli military said its targets were members of the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency.

The Ministry of Health in Beirut said that “two attacks today by the Israeli enemy on a vehicle and a motorcycle in the city of Jater” killed one person and injured another.

Attacks on Hezbollah

In separate statements, the Israeli military said it had “hit a Hezbollah terrorist in the Jater area.” She then added that she had “hit another Hezbollah terrorist” in the same area.

The Lebanese army also announced in its statement on Sunday that its soldiers had discovered and neutralized an “Israeli espionage facility” in the town of Yaroun, also near the Israeli border.

Israel continues to attack Lebanon despite a November 2024 ceasefire that was supposed to end fighting between the Jewish state and the Iranian-backed militant group. Its troops are still deployed in five locations in the south of the country.

The Lebanese government has pledged to disarm Hezbollah due to pressure from the US and fear of an escalation of Israeli attacks.

Casualty data

According to AFP data, based on reports from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, more than 340 people have died in Lebanon as a result of Israeli attacks since the conclusion of the ceasefire.

Israel questioned the capabilities of the Lebanese army and accused Hezbollah of rearming.

Fears of rearmament

During his visit to Israel on Sunday, US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham also accused the militant group of re-arming. “My sense is that Hezbollah is trying to make more weapons… This is not an acceptable outcome,” Graham said in a video statement released by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office.

Lebanon’s army chief agreed at talks in Paris this week to document progress in disarming Hezbollah, the French foreign ministry said.

On Friday, Lebanese and Israeli civilian officials participated in a second meeting of the ceasefire monitoring committee. The Israeli side said Friday’s meeting was part of broader efforts to ensure the disarmament of Hezbollah and strengthen security in border areas.
