The smallest apartment in the world with an area of only 7 square meters has four rooms and a sauna

They say that what is small is beautiful… And this is the case even with the smallest apartment in the world. See for yourself!

Dutch architects Beatriz Ramo and Bernd Upmeye managed to pull off a hussar piece! They have created a stylish retreat in only seven square meters! Does it seem impossible to you? But where… As they say, anything goes when you want it… And even on a small “patch” you can build a stylish home with everything you need.

Inspiration by Corbusier

The creative duo was inspired by a Swiss architect Le Corbusier, who built a tiny holiday apartment on the Côte d’Azur in 1951. It was a wooden cabin covered with bark, which had an area of only 15 m². The building had a height of 2.26 m and side dimensions of around 3.6 m. Le Corbusier built only a rest and work zone, a sink and a toilet in his mini-house. He didn’t take care of the kitchen because he liked to eat out…to his favorite pub L’Etoile de Mer.

Smart furniture means more space

Another thing Le Corbusier used in his holiday home was built-in furniture. He used a folding bed, a folding table and storage boxes.
So that the floor does not seem too cramped, he painted it yellow, the panels on the walls green or red. And instead of paintings, he used small windows with a wonderful view of the sea.
And it was this house of the famous Le Corbusier that became the starting point for another architectural miniature in the center of Rotterdam.

A small home in the heart of Rotterdam

FlatBeatriz Ramo and Bernda Upmeye are located on the upper floors of the post-war house. The entire interior is painted in tangerine color, which looks fresh and joyful. Upon entering, you will be greeted by a “living room” with an area of 3.5 m². Its domain is height (almost three meters) and a giant window with a view of the city… The kitchen and everything that belongs to it is hidden in the furniture wall, including a fold-out table, so just unfold the furniture and you are immediately in another room.

Up the ladder to bed

The sleeping floor, where the owners spend their night’s rest, is accessible by a ladder. Just a few steps and they are immediately in “bed”. The mini space also includes a room for daily hygiene. Beatriz Ramo and Bernd Upmeye modified the toilet so that it can also be used as a shower. Behind the inconspicuous sliding doors, they also placed an infrared sauna and a hot tub… It’s unbelievable how much can be built on such a small area.

Apartment of the future

The concept of the Rotterdam mini-apartment captivated not only architects, but also the professional public, who call it the apartment of the future. We live in a time when there is no space to spare and here is proof that even in a small space you can live quite comfortably. The way it looks, there will be more and more small apartments… And who knows, maybe next time we will write about another home, perhaps with even smaller dimensions.
