Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov died in the explosion of a car bomb in the south of Moscow on Monday. One of the investigative versions of the assassination is that the bomb was planted in his car by the Ukrainian security services, TASR writes, according to reports from the AP, Reuters and AFP agencies.
Sarvarov (56) was the head of the Directorate of Operational Training of the General Staff of the Russian Army and on Monday morning around 07:00 local time (05:00 CET) he was heading to work in his personal car Kia Sorento. It exploded a few seconds after starting. A criminal prosecution was initiated in connection with the incident.
According to the spokesperson of the Investigative Committee (Sledkom), Svetlana Petrenkova Sarvarov died as a result of the explosion, and investigators are working with multiple versions of the incident, including the responsibility of Ukrainian security services.
