What prize does the Treasury take?
The Treasury will be able to enter 180.2 million euros in the next Christmas Lottery draw if the first three prizes are distributed, according to the calculations of the technicians of the Ministry of Finance (Gestha). An increase in withholdings of 4.55 million compared to last year due to the increase of 5 series in the draw. Looking ahead to the Christmas Draw, Gestha explained in a note that by taxing Lottery prizes starting at 40,000 euros at 20%, the lucky ones who win the Grand Prize, which distributes 400,000 euros to the tenth, will receive 328,000 euros, while the treasury gets the remaining 72,000 euros.
Of the second prize, 125,000 euros per tenth, 17,000 euros will go to the Treasury. And from the third prize, 50,000 euros per tenth, 2,000 euros will be deducted.
Prizes whose full amount is equal to or less than 40,000 euros are exempt. Prizes whose full amount exceeds 40,000 euros will only be taxed with respect to the part of the same that exceeds said amount, as recalled by the Tax Agency. Thus, for example, a prize of 100,000 euros would be taxed at 20% on 60,000 euros (100,000-40,000), so a withholding of 12,000 euros would be made and 88,000 would be received)
